EWR Radar Systems, Inc. (EWR) has been chosen to supply three Solid State (SSPA) X Band Weather Radar Systems to support the 2018 Winter Olympics in the Republic of Korea (ROK).
EWR was notified in August that the E800 Dual Polarization Weather Radar System was selected by Hanjin Information Systems & Telecommunication Co., Ltd. (HIST) and the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). EWR will supply three high resolution, solid state E8000 radar systems to meet the KMA requirement for a new X Band weather radar network. KMA will use the radar network for early detection of high-impact weather events in highly populated areas and generating precise weather data such as local scale heavy rainfall and snow.
HIST will manage the infrastructure construction and network integration of the E800 radars at 3 locations: Muan, Gunsan & PyeongChang – site of the 2018 Winter Olympics. The network is scheduled to be completed and operational ahead of the Winter Olympics in February 2018.
